Sister Patricia (Catherine Demetria) Rielly died on June 20, 2019 at St. Martin’s Residence, Mission San Jose, CA. She was 96 years old and 75 years professed as a Dominican Sister of Mission San Jose.

A native of San Francisco, Sister Patricia was one of seven children of Thomas and Mary Rielly. She attended St. James Elementary School and Immaculate Conception Academy, San Francisco. 

For 45 years Sister ministered as a secondary instructor, specializing in the teaching of Latin--first to fourth year courses, and journalism. In northern California she taught at Immaculate Conception Academy and St. Elizabeth High School, Oakland. In southern California she taught at San Gabriel Mission High School, San Gabriel; St. Michael’s High School and Sacred Heart High School, Los Angeles; and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, La Canada Flintridge. For over 15 years she assisted in the Congregation’s Development Office and was responsible for the Community Newsletter. 

Sister Patricia was preceded in death by five siblings: Father Francis E. Rielly and Father Thomas C. Rielly who served in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Father John C. Rielly, S.M., Rose Romelfanger, and Mary Rielly. She is survived by her brother William Rielly, Oakland, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The viewing will be Monday, June 24, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Motherhouse chapel of the Dominican Sisters, 43326 Mission Circle, Fremont, CA 94539. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Motherhouse the following day, Tuesday, June 25, at 11:15 a.m. Interment will follow in God’s Acre, the Dominican Sisters’ cemetery at the Motherhouse.
