Sister Eileen Marie (Marlene) Corrigan, O.P. died on June 28 at St. Martin Residence, located at the Motherhouse, Fremont, CA. She was 77 years old and professed as a Dominican Sister for 57 years.
Daughter of William and Eileen Corrigan, Sister Eileen Marie was born in Pasadena, CA, on February 21, 1942. After graduation from San Gabriel Mission High School, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose and ministered as elementary school teacher and principal. Sites of her educational ministry included San Gabriel Mission Elementary School, St. Vincent’s School for Boys, San Rafael, CA, and St. Ignatius School, Los Angeles. She also served as Vocation Director for her Congregation.
Known for her love for the Word of God, her great gift of friendship and engaging sense of humor, Sister Eileen Marie inspired many by her patient and prayerful acceptance of illness. After a growing experience of declining health, she moved to St. Martin Residence in 2011 and devoted herself to an apostolate of prayer, inviting friends and sisters to give her their pictures which she posted in her room as a daily reminder to pray for others.
A Vigil for Sister will be held on Friday, July 5, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Martin Residence. Her funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 6, at 11:15 a.m. in the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse Chapel, 43326 Mission Circle, Fremont, CA 94539.
