Las Casas ESL program continues to empower diverse adults to reach their career and education goals.
Sponsored by the Dominican Sisters, English instruction takes place 3 nights a week (7-8:30 PM) at the former St. Elizabeth High School campus in Oakland’s Fruitvale district.
Over 2,000 adult “alumni” have learned English at Las Casas, since it was established in 2002 by S. Ann Ronin, OP.
English language learners enroll in sequenced courses (Literacy- Advanced Intermediate). The program is named for Bartolome de las Casas, a 16th century Dominican friar and early advocate for the indigenous rights in the Americas.
