Our Values

Skip Navigation LinksHome > Our Story > Our Values

As Dominican women, we cherish our call to praise, to bless, to preach. We embrace a communal way of life shaped by the gospel counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience, prayer, study and ministry.

Prayer is the lifeline that feeds our spirits. We are nourished by God’s Word and Eucharist. We gather to pray each morning and evening united with the prayer of praise and petition for the world.

Study roots our prayer, community life and ministry in truth. We listen with open hearts and minds to the Word of God and to seek the truth wherever it is found. The discipline of study is the key to fruitful searching.

Community shapes our lives, supports us and sends us forth to minister. Through community we make ourselves available to be of service to our Sisters and wherever, however we are needed. These three dimensions shape us as women who bear God’s Word to our world.

Ministry and the mission of the Order of Preachers impel us to follow Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena in their love for the Word of God, trust in Divine Providence, fidelity to the Church, pursuit of truth and zeal for the preaching mission.

The four pillars of the Dominican life are the values that help to shape the charism and mission of all Dominicans.  We share these values with Dominican friars, nuns, sister, laity, associates, students, volunteers and members of our extended family.

Nourished by the Word of God and the Eucharist, we are faithful to the values that keep our lives in balance and help us to be sturdy support for others.
